my documentary: energy slaves

Posted by dermot on November 28, 2008 at 4:52 pm

Here’s a short scene from my work in progress. It’s a half hour long animated documentary about oil, energy and growth:

The animation of the man is taken from one of the old propaganda cartoons from the 1940s. I reanimated it in Flash, which allows me to resize it, and to reuse it in the second [...]

she who measures

Posted by dermot on November 27, 2008 at 10:01 am

She Who Measures is an eerie piece about the consumer society.
Polish SF writer Stanislaw Lem dealt with this theme many years ago (long before “The Matrix” films) in his book “The Futurological Congress”. Don’t read this link if you’re going to read the book, as it contains spoilers:

Users will be able to create their own avatars, and hang out.
Sad to say I found the frame-rate a wee slow. It’s actually quite difficult for Flash to handle a [...]

beauty now

Posted by dermot on November 14, 2008 at 1:22 pm

Having worked on a pastiche of the 50s propaganda cartoons for the last two years (and watched most of them), it’s fun to see this amazing effort by Paul Flanagan, titled “Beauty Now”:

Note the scene where the girl exits the car with her knees together. Sadly, they don’t teach that technique to young ladies any [...]
