Most traditional feature animators work “pose to pose” - i.e., they plan out their entire scenes in pre-designed key poses, and work around them, filling in the secondary actions and inbetweens.
I only ever met ONE feature animator who worked “straight ahead”, starting with key #1, and moving to the second, third, fourth. He drove the directors crazy, as they were pose to pose die-hards.
The guy(s) who did this can only have worked straight ahead - one of the advantages is that the work is more free form and unpredictable, though a lot harder to plan!

I can’t even imagine how long that took. Brilliant, though. Definitely brilliant.

Same - that kind of work blows my mind.
